Where should I apply?

- Overseas applicants:
- Submit your application to the nearest Taiwanese diplomatic mission.
- The diplomatic mission will forward your application to the National Development Council for qualification review.
- Once you meet the qualifications, you will return to the diplomatic mission for visa processing.
- Applicants in Taiwan:
- If you entered Taiwan without a visa or hold a non-extendable stay visa (such as general social visit, tourism, or business visa), you must submit your application 10 working days before your stay expires.
- The application process is as follows:
- Submit your application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Bureau of Consular Affairs or its representative office in Taiwan.
- The National Development Council will review your qualifications.
- Once you meet the qualifications, return to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Bureau of Consular Affairs or the local representative office for visa processing.
- If you fail to obtain the visa before the expiration of your stay, you must leave Taiwan as required.
How long does the application process take, and how can I check the status?
The application process takes 14 to 20 working days from the date of submission. If there are public holidays or additional documents are required, the review time may be extended. To ensure that your rights are not affected, it is recommended to plan ahead and apply in advance. To check the application status, please call the processing office where you submitted your application.
Obtain the visa
Once the visa is approved, your passport will be affixed with the relevant visa documentation. If you apply for the visa outside of Taiwan, both the issuance and review will be handled by the overseas diplomatic mission, meaning you must apply and collect the visa abroad, and it cannot be collected in Taiwan after applying. Similarly, if you apply for the visa within Taiwan, you must collect it within Taiwan.
How long can I stay in Taiwan? How can I extend my stay?
The visa is valid for 90 days, and you can apply for an extension with the National Immigration Agency once. The maximum total stay period is 180 days.
Is there a renewal mechanism after applying for the maximum 180-day stay?
Since this is a new visa, a longer stay cannot be provided until the law is amended.
